Streambased presents at Berlin Buzzwords 2025

Mid June saw the Berlin Buzzwords conference attracting the latest and greatest in AI, search, streaming and Iceberg to come together and share ideas and views of the future. This year's conference highlighted the need for responsible AI usage, efficient data infrastructure and the great leap forward in search technology as a result of the AI revolution.

Whilst we mainly focused on Iceberg and Kafka, we took advantage of the fact that Buzzwords is a polyglot conference to get outside the echo chamber and expand our horizons. A particular highlight was a speaker's dinner discussion on AI in farming that demonstrated how intelligent data collection and processing can minimise farming inputs and maximise returns.

Streambased Talks

Streambased presented a talk on the first day, presenting I.S.K. (Iceberg Service for Kafka), our logical Iceberg view over Kafka data. The former brewery at Kulturbrauerei is a fantastic location to present, and we appreciated the great turn out and interesting post talk discussion.

We had a blast diving into how we’re growing the Apache Kafka crowd! As usual, we’re reaching beyond the usual engineers and talking directly to analysts, data scientists, and anyone who thrives on real-time insights. Spoiler alert: there's a lot of value waiting for them.

This talk wasn't just an overview. We peeled back the curtain to show exactly how it works and shared the bold architectural shift that sparked its creation.

More Iceberg

Wherever you turned, Apache Iceberg was everywhere, like the secret sauce behind every data engineer’s smile. The buzz was undeniable: Iceberg wasn’t just a popular topic, it was one of the major themes of the conference. You could feel the momentum building behind its standardization, and we weren’t alone. Our session was just one of many diving deep into the Iceberg-powered data stack.

From upstream ingestion pipelines (hello, ETL!) to the gritty guts of performance tuning and ongoing maintenance rituals, every corner of the Iceberg ecosystem got its time in the spotlight. Whether you were a first-timer or a seasoned Iceberg wrangler, there was something for everyone. It’s clear this isn’t some passing trend. Iceberg has firmly planted its flag in the modern data landscape and judging by the enthusiasm in the room, it’s not just here to stay... it’s here to lead.

Looking Ahead

Berlin Buzzwords 2025 gave us more than just a platform to present, it reminded us why we build in the first place. The energy, curiosity, and passion from the community left us inspired and recharged. We’re heading home with fresh perspectives, new partnerships, and even bolder ideas for what’s next.
